Sleepless In Manhattan
SLEEPLESS IN MANHATTAN has got to be the best feel good story I have read in a long time. Paige, Frankie, and Eva have been best friends since they were young. They all work at the same event planning company and one day out of the blue, they are all fired. It’s not bad enough that they are unemployed and have to find new jobs, but where are they going to find a job where all three of them can be together. There is nothing out there.
They come up with an idea to start their own company. After going through some names, and some of them are laugh out loud funny, they come up with Urban Genie. Against everything that she is, Paige goes to Jake for advice. Now Jake is the man who Paige has been in love with for years but he is also Paige’s brothers best friend. Oh yeah, you know how well this is going to go. Jake has a reputation for being a player, love them and leave them. Will Jake ever be able to let go of the past and give Paige the love and commitment she needs and deserves?
I have never read Sarah Morgan before but after reading SLEEPLESS IN MANHATTAN I know I will be reading everything by her that I can get my hands on. Paige hooked me from the very first page. She has had to deal with so much in her life including Jake being a jerk to her. She has spent so much of her life in the hospital because of heart problems. Back then, Jake would sit for her for hours just talking to her and watching over her. How could she not fall in love with a man willing to do that for her? He rejected her when she let her feelings be known and now she is guarding her heart. We all know how that goes right? The heart always wants what the heart can’t have.
The relationship that Paige and her friends has is perfect and they all compliment one another. They are always there for each other. They genuinely care and love each other. That is a special thing and I’m so glad that no man comes between them. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series to learn more about Paige and her friends. Not to mention, seeing where Sarah Morgan goes with Paige and Jake’s story line. SLEEPLESS IN MANHATTAN has it all, romance, great dialogue, and awesome characters.
AMISH SWEETHEARTS is book two in the Neighbors of Lancaster County series by Leslie Gould. Ms. Gould does a fabulous job of combining the Amish world with the Englisch people living nearby. This is no easy challenge as the Englisch family, The Becks, are a military family. The Amish are pacifists and do not believe in fighting.
The Becks, Shani and Joel, have a son named Zane. Lila is the Amish neighbor and Zane and Lila have been best friends since they were kids. Now they are older and Lila’s dad has arranged for Lila to be courted by Reuben, an Amish man from her community. Zane can not handle seeing Lila and Reuben together so he does something stupid and impulsive and joins the Army. Even though they both are convinced they have moved on, Zane and Lila are both miserable. After some time, Reuben has grown impatient with Lila. He wants to marry her and begin their life together but Lila isn’t ready to make that commitment to him. She knows in her heart she doesn’t love Reuben they way he deserves to be loved.
Zane is soon sent to Afghanistan and Lila tries to stay friends with him. She knows she isn’t being truthful to Reuben as she also knows her life with Zane could never be more than friends. They come from two different worlds. She would never leave her Amish community and her family behind. She decides to end her friendship with Zane. She breaks both of their hearts in the process. Before you start reading AMISH SWEETHEARTS make sure you have plenty of time because once you start, you won’t want to stop.
Ever since I read the first book in this series, Amish Promises, I feel as if I know the characters very well. You don’t have to read the first book to read AMISH SWEETHEARTS but if you want to know the characters deeper I would suggest reading them in order. I can’t wait to continue with this series and learn more about their troubles and happiness. Leslie Gould sure knows how to write a great story and you will be amazed how fast she grabs at your heart and never lets you go until the very last page. You will fall in love with all the characters and will feel as if you are right there dealing with their many issues. Leslie Gould’s characters are going to take over your heart and leave you screaming for more.
Charlotte Hubbard takes her time introducing you to each of the characters and their problems and how they are feeling. I immediately felt as if I knew them all and was right there at the kitchen table hashing things out and praying. In no time, I was totally sucked in to their lives and the issues they were dealing with. The plot is very interesting and had me turning the pages late into the night. Be prepared not to do anything else once you start reading this well written and hopeful tale. I found myself thinking about all of these wonderful characters long after I finished reading. How strong these people had to have been to leave their Amish community to start another one.
Three sisters leave their Amish church community to start a new one. One where the women are valued and not belittled or abused. PROMISE LODGE introduces you to Amish women that you aren’t used to reading about. These women are independent and behave in a way that the bishop wouldn’t be happy with. These three sisters can not stand the ways things are handled in their community in Coldstream so they buy an abandoned camp ground and turn it into Promise Lodge. A place where women can come and be treated as an equal. A place for new beginnings. Their first guest is Deborah and she is the ex girlfriend of Noah. Will he forgive her for her mistakes? Will they ever be happy again?
Charlotte Hubbard is now on my author radar and she will have me running to every book she releases and PROMISE LODGE is exactly why. When it was over, I wanted to keep reading and stay in the characters business. I was giggling, laughing out loud and even holding back tears as I watched each of the characters grow. Charlotte Hubbard pulls you right in to all of their lives and once you start, you won’t be able to put this wonderful story down. As an added bonus, Charlotte includes recipes in the back of the book. I would love to be able to visit PROMISE LODGE and indulge in some of these wonderful recipes.
Love With Your Everything
Oh my gosh, this series just keeps getting better and better with each book. LOVE WITH YOUR everything is Emily’s story. She has lived on Rocky Isle her whole life and is a single mother to Anna. When the new sheriff comes to town cell phones start buzzing. Emily and her friends have a little game going that when they see a hot guy they immediately text their friends with “I saw him first”. Let me just say, Emily is not the one to send the text about Todd, the hot and gorgeous sheriff. I loved this story and once I started reading I couldn’t put it down. I have come to love these people and they feel as if they have been my friends forever. There was so much mystery and suspense with this story, I found myself holding my breath at certain points while reading.
Penny Harmon is now on my author radar and she will have me running to every book she releases. LOVE WITH YOUR EVERYTHING is exactly why. She has a way of making you feel as if you are right there on the island, right in the middle of all the characters lives and dealing with whatever is going on. The ladies and their significant others of Rocky Isle are the best of friends and they always have each other’s backs. I love that about them. They don’t ask questions, they just ask “what can I do?”.
LOVE WITH YOUR EVERYTHING by Penny Harmon is book three in the Rocky Isle Romance series. The next book, The Magic of The Sunrise comes out in August and is Ashley’s story.
I’m so excited to continue this wonderful and heart warming series.
A Fairytale Bride
I devour everything Hope Ramsay writes and A FAIRYTALE BRIDE is exactly why. It is the first book, or I should say novella in Hope’s new series, Chapel of Love series. It is short and sweet and left me wanting more after I finished reading it and that’s why I love this author. All of her books do this to me. So that is my only complaint about A FAIRYTALE BRIDE. When it was over, I wanted to keep reading and stay in the characters business.
Melissa owns the used bookstore, Secondhand Prose. Her grandmother left it to her before she died. She is struggling to keep it open. The taxes are due and she has no way to pay them. In walks Jeff Talbert-Lyndon. He is instantly taken with Melissa and offers to help her around the store. He doesn’t tell her his last name as it is well known in Shenadoah Falls, Virginia. It is a name that Melissa would not be happy to hear as she thinks the family is trying to get her out of the building and buy it. Melissa is quite taken with Jeff too but knows how to protect her heart. You can only imagine what happens when she learns the truth about Jeff and his family.
I love this story of Jeff and Melissa and I was totally wrapped up in their lives and the shenanigans of the crazy town folk. Hope Ramsay never disappoints with her stories and keeps me turning the pages. I couldn’t stop reading until I knew exactly what was going to happen. I truly love A FAIRYTALE BRIDE. The situations Melissa and Jeff found themselves in are hysterical. Hope Ramsay and her magnificent writing made me feel like I was right there with Melissa, all the while trying not to let her see the smirk on my face about what was happening. For me, A FAIRYTALE BRIDE is a fun story but also at times, emotional and for one afternoon, it allowed me to escape to a wonderful small town and get involved in the characters lives and business. Be prepared to laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time.
ARC received from Netgalley for an honest review.
I received this book free from the For Love of a Book Group and/or the author in exchange for an honest review.
VINTAGE DREAMS is the story of Scott and Danielle. Scott is on his way to his home town of Morello Cove, a place he never wanted to return to. When he was five years old, his dad had a construction company and used inferior products. People were hurt and even died because of his shady business practices. Scott was beat up because of that. When he moved away he never thought he would ever go back. Yet, he is on his way to meet the owners of Annata, a clothing boutique on the boardwalk. He has a client that wants to buy their location for their coffee shop chain.
Annata is where Scott meets Danielle, one of the owners. She is annoyed from the minute she meets Scott and is downright rude to him. Scott is not one to give up a fight and enjoys sparring with Danielle. Danielle has no interest in his client’s offer and wishes Scott would just leave town already. VINTAGE DREAMS will have you laughing out loud and snickering with the banter and sarcastic comments these two are involved in.
Jannie Lund takes her time introducing you to each of the characters and their problems and how they are feeling. I immediately felt as if I knew them all and was right there at the kitchen table hashing things out. In no time, I was totally sucked in to their lives and the issues they were dealing with. The plot is very interesting and had me turning the pages late into the night. I have never heard or read this author before but after reading VINTAGE DREAMS I’m looking forward to reading more of this series. Be prepared not to do anything else once you start reading this well written and hopeful tale. I found myself thinking about all of these wonderful characters long after I finished reading.
Sweet Little Lies
I received an ARC from Edelweiss for an honest review.
I’ve only read one other Jill Shalvis book before SWEET LITTLE LIES. I know I know……don’t shoot me okay? But after reading this funny and sexy story I am on a quest to read all the ones that I missed. Jill Shalvis is the perfect author for me. Funny, snarky, and just the right amount of hotness make the perfect story for me. I’m excited to read more of her stories.
SWEET LITTLE LIES is the first book in Jill Shalvis’ new series, Heartbreaker Bay and I can’t wait to read more about this fun and loyal bunch of friends. Pru lost her parents in a drunk driving accident eight years ago. She is now the captain of a tour boat in San Francisco and loving her life. But what no one except her boss knows is she has been keeping tabs on everyone involved in that horrible and tragic accident. She has anonymously been helping them all, making sure they are okay and having whatever they need to make their dreams come true and their lives better. One of those people is Finn O’Riley. One sexy and very hot man that Pru can’t stop thinking about.
Pru meets all the quirky characters at O’Rileys Bar that soon become her friends. SWEET LITTLE LIES shows you how all the friends stick together, care for one another, and always have each other’s backs. This includes Pru. Seriously, this is a great group of friends and I could almost feel like I was sitting in the bar eating hot wings with Pru and staring at Finn’s perfect and oh so sexy body. Will Finn ever find out what Pru is hiding from him? She has a secret and it’s a big one, but how will she ever find the perfect moment to tell him? You have to read SWEET LITTLE LIES to find out! Trust me, you won’t regret it for a New York minute.
SWEET LITTLE LIES is the perfect start to what promises to be an awesome series. So many times I wanted to give a big hug to Pru. She is so selfless and only wants the best for everyone. She deserves happiness as well and she is the only one who doesn’t think that. The accident wasn’t her fault but she gives up everything to help those involved. While reading, I found myself giggling and snorting and laughing out loud at the banter between this group of friends and especially between Pru and Finn. Jill Shalvis does an awesome job of making you fall in love with all of her characters and leaves you wanting more of them. I’m so excited to see what happens next in this series.
A Distant Voice
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A DISTANT VOICE broke my heart. I just wanted to reach into this wonderful story and give Violet a great big hug. She is just a kid and her life and world have been turned upside down and left her devastated and lonely. After a tragedy in her family occurs she leaves Chicago and moves in with her grandmother in Tennessee. Violet is struggling with keeping it together. Her dad left and ever since her mother is not getting out of bed and has shut down.
Violet’s grandmother was a famous singer but she was a drunk and doing drugs and after one bad performance she walked away from it all. Violet loves to sing but is afraid to end up like her grandmother so she leaves it all behind even if it makes her the happiest. She feels as if she is happy her family will think she is being selfish and that just breaks your heart while reading A DISTANT VOICE. Violet doesn’t believe that she deserves to be happy ever again, not like she was with her sister Rose. Rose was her whole life, all she wanted to do was make her happy.
Birdie Blake made me feel the exact way Violet was feeling, my emotions were all over the place while reading A DISTANT VOICE. Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. Would Violet ever find her happy place? Would she ever feel she deserved to be happy? Would she ever stop putting up walls and pushing away everyone who truly cares about her?
A DISTANT VOICE is beautifully written and once I started reading I was emotionally invested in this family and Violet. Carter had my heart from the very first meeting and he had me in tears with all that he had been through. Kids shouldn’t have to deal with these things. They should just be allowed to be kids, but some of the things they have to deal with, is so unfair. I found myself cheering for Carter and Violet and hoping they would find their happiness and be able to follow their dreams.
Everywhere I’d Go
Julie Ann Knudsen
EVERYWHERE I’D GO by Julie Ann Knudsen has left me sobbing like a baby. I just finished reading and I can’t wrap my head around this heart breaking story. This is the third book in the series, Willow’s Journey and with each one, Julie Ann Knudsen shredded my heart.
I fell in love with Willow and Michael from the very first story and have been cheering them on ever since. They love each other very much and all they want is to be together. Michael, who has cystic fibrosis and has recently had a lung transplant can’t stand being away from Willow. He wants them to get married so they can always be together, but Willow wants to finish high school and go to college. Don’t get me wrong, she wants to marry Michael just not at 17. Michael doesn’t pressure Willow but he is constantly dropping hints.
EVERYWHERE I’D GO is such a moving story. If there were ever two people that deserved to be happy it has to be Michael and Willow. The tension that Ms. Knudsen had my heart feeling was unstoppable and I was just waiting for the happiness that Willow and Michael had found to blow up in their faces and for the stupid other shoe to fall. Once I started reading EVERYWHERE I’D GO, I had a hard time putting it down as I had to know what was going to happen with Willow and Michael and let me tell you, Julie Ann Knudsen knows how to grab your heart from the very first page, and never let you go. Be prepared not to do anything else once you start reading this heartbreaking and hopeful tale. I found myself thinking about all of these wonderful characters long after I finished reading.
